(1857) German-Austrian pediatrician and professor Theodor Escherich is born. He is known for discovering Escherichia coli (E. coli), a bacteria with subtypes that are known to cause food poisoning.
(1944) Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas perform the first human surgery to correct blue baby syndrome, a syndrome caused by cardiovascular defects and poor oxygenation, leading to an infant that is slightly blue in colour.
(1972) The first commercially successfully Atari announces the release of Pong, the first commercially successful video game.
