(1) (1632) Dutch tradesman and scientist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek is born. He is known as the ‘Father of Microbiology’ and was the first person to document microscopic observations of bacteria and muscle fibers.
(2) (1924) South African cardiologist John Brereton Barlow is born. He carried out many studies on cardiac disorders and discovered the cause of mitral cardiac disorder.
(3) (1942) American epidemiologist Don Francis is born. He was an HIV/AIDS researcher who worked on the Ebola outbreak in the late 1970’s.
