(1) (1867) Swiss physician and nutritionist Maximilian Bircher-Benner is born. He focused on using food to heal those who were sick and was one of the first people to see food as more than just beneficial for satisfying hunger.

(2) (1873) Russian physician and philosopher Alexander Bogdanov is born. He received training in medicine and psychology and focused his research on the possibility of blood transfusions helping human rejuvenation.

(3) (1915) Canadian-American scientist and inventor James Hillier is born. He is known for co-inventing the first successful high-resolution electron microscope in North America.
