(1) (1918) American chemist Sidney Gottlieb was born. He is most remembered for his role in MKUltra, an illegal program run by the CIA which included administering drugs like LSD and marijuana to subjects.

(2) (1954) President of University College London Michael Arthur was born. His research has focused on the pathophysiology of liver cirrhosis.

(3)  (1959) Japanese engineer Koichi Tanaka is born. He shared the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing a new method for mass spectrometry to detect macromolecules, such as proteins.
