August 2:
(1) (1533) Swiss physician and humanist scholar Theodor Zwinger is born. He published multiple books on travel and studied theoretical medicine.
(2) (1788) German chemist Leopold Gmelin is born. He created Gmelin’s test, a chemical test which detects the presence of bile in a urine sample.
(3) (2003) Austrian physician Peter Safar passes away. He is most remembered for introducing  cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
