(1) (1857) Puerto Rican physician, sociologist José Celso Barbosa is born. He initiated an early form of health insurance, encouraging employers to pay a fee to cover future needs of their employees.

(2) (1906)  Canadian psychologist, physiologist, anatomist Herbet Jasper is born. He focused his research on the pathophysiogenesis of epilepsy.

(3) (1921) Led by Frederick Banting, researchers at the University of Toronto prove that the hormone insulin regulates blood sugar.
