June 14:

(1) (1864) Bavarian-born German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Dr. Aloysius Alzheimer was born. He is credited with identifying the first published case of “presenile dementia”, which was later identified as Alzheimer’s disease.

(2) (1868) Austrian and American biologist and physician Karl Landsteiner was born. He is noted for developing the modern method of classifying the blood groups.

(3) (1924) Scottish pharmacologist Sir James Whyte Black was born. He developed propranolol, a beta blocker used for the treatment of heart disease.
