(1) (1773) English polymath and physician Thomas Young was born. Described as “The Last Man Who Knew Everything”, Young contributed to the fields of vision, light, music, and Egyptology. He hypothesized that color perception is dependent on three different nerve fibres present in the retina.

(2) (1822) Baltic German chemist Carl Schmidt was born. He studied chemical changes in the blood associated with cholera, diabetes, and arsenic poisoning.

(3) (1894) Austrian-American psychiatrist and physician Leo Kanner was born. He is remembered for his work on autism and its associated characteristics.
