(1863) American philosopher and psychologist Mary Whiton Calkins is born. She was the first woman to become president of the American Psychological Association and her research focused on a number of topics including memory and dreams.

(1882) Austrian-British psychoanalyst Melanie Klein is born. Her research focused on child psychology and the role of parents in child development.

(1913) Maltese general, physician, and politician Ċensu Tabone is born. During his medical career he ran a campaign which virtually eliminated trachoma (a blinding disease) on the island of Gozo.
