(1712) English physician, plant collector, and philanthropist John Fothergill was born. He is credited for being the first to name and identify trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain disorder that affects a nerve responsible for sensation in the face.

(1886) American chemist Edward Calvin Kendall was born. He shared the 1950 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work on the hormones of the adrenal glands and their structure and function.

(1948) Turkish dermatologist and scientist Hulusi Behçet was born. He described Behçet’s disease, as a rare, immune system-mediated disease characterized by inflammation of the blood vessels.
