(1870) Austrian medical doctor and psychotherapist Alfred W. Adler is born. He developed the Inferiority Complex, the feeling of low self-esteem, which is thought to arise from a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

(1877) English mathematician G. H. Hardy is born. He is best known for co-developing the Hardy-Weinberg Principle, a principle used in population genetics.

(1905) Swedish physiologist and pharmacologist Ulf Svante von Euler is born. He shared the 1970 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on neurotransmitters and the role of noradrenaline.
