(1722) Swedish biologist and explorer Fredrik Hasselquist was born. He traveled to many parts of Asia Minor, Egypt, Cyprus, and Palestine, where he made large natural history collections.

(1821) Carniolan liberal politician and natural scientist Karel Dežman is born. He was a prominent archaeologist and also made a number of contributions to the fields of botany, zoology, mineralogy, and geology.

(2016) Danish computer scientist Peter Naur passed away. He wrote a number of publications on computer use and humans, including ‘Computing Versus Human Thinking’.
